HiVE – PLAYUP PERTH FEAT. SCOTT LUDLAM

On Saturday, FTI’s Playup Perth hosted Australian games industry champion Greens Senator Scott Ludlam as a special guest for an equally special night to celebrate and advocate for the WA games industry. While Playup Perth is usually a playtesting event for new, unreleased games, last Saturday’s event was all about showcasing our local WA game talent. HiVE showcased Blitz Bandits and Aliensche and also participated in a short discussion with the Senator regarding the health of the creative sector and the growth of the games development community in Western Australia. Scott seemed to enjoy Aliensche quite a bit and described it as “the most sticky game he has played in a while”, he couldn’t stop playing! Great night and good to see so many new faces, hopefully we can all make the inquiry into games funding a success.

HiVE – RHETORIC LIVE PERFORMANCE

HiVE performed live GAMEBOY tunes and audio visuals for Rhetoric at the Velvet Lounge. Was a great night filled with retrovibes and colour. Thanks to Aaron for running the event and to everyone who came down to hang out.

POST-JAM ALIENSCHE! – RELEASED

Aliensche! was HiVE interactive’s entry into Ludum Dare LDJAM #33. The original version was made in ~34 hours. The new version (v0.1.2)  is online now and ready to download or play online.

Collect cows and avoid projectiles as an invading alien in an unidentified craft!

As an extra terrestrial, you are obviously fascinated by Earth’s bovine inhabitants. Your mission is to collect super cute cow specimens for your research requirements by delivering them to them to the mother ship. However, the Cow Defense Forces have been mobilized! You will need to catch cows while avoiding their attacks so you will have to keep mooooooving. Remember, if you are in trouble you can utilize your advanced cow collecting technology as a weapon against the defenders – pick them up and throw them down hard, or grab their missiles and send them back!

So voting is over! I’d like to thank everyone who voted and took time to play my entry into LD#33. Here is how I went for my first ever Ludum Dare – I was very happy to place in the top 100 for ‘Fun’ and in the top 200 for ‘Overall’!

I have been hard at work on a new post-jam version of the game – it’s done! I could not have made all the improvements without the constructive criticism I received from the amazing Ludum Dare community.

This past weekend I took Aliensche! to a local play testing event to get feedback and document reactions, people seemed to have a lot of fun catching cows:

uTracker is an editor window extension that allows code-free triggering of behavior methods according to Timelines – complete with a streamlined and easy to use tracker inspired interface.

Using uTracker, you can quickly setup Timelines to sequence method calls with or without parameters. Each Timeline runs four channels synchronously, allowing multiple actions to occur at once. By taking care of all your sequencing needs, this is a great tool for prototyping. The uTracker package is well documented and includes 3 example scenes.

Set your duration, play on awake or loop, start and stop Timelines or link Timelines together – Whatever your project, uTracker can accelerate its development.

The potential uses for uTracker are infinite, limited only by your imagination.
